NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

(This course is recommended as a bare minimum for all youth participants)

This course is being conducted by NRA Certified Instructors. The course will be instructed in two sections and both must be attended in order to complete the course.

This course includes 14 hours of training on gun parts and operation, ammunition, safety, cleaning, storage, loading procedures, shooting fundamentals and rifle sports activities. Students participate in range firing exercises under the supervision of instructors. The objective of this course is to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a rifle in shooting a stationary target.

We have no age or physical size limit for perspective students, parents will know best if their children are ready. Moms & Dads are also welcome to attend the class.

Students are responsible for their own lunches (food & drink) for both classroom & range as well as transportation to and from the range. Transportation is NOT provided by the instructors.

Upon completion of the Basic Rifle Safety Course, each student will have the opportunity to earn one or more of the following NRA awards which reflects his/her shooting skills:

NRA Qualification, Pro Marksman, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, Distinguished Expert

Interested Boy Scouts may work towards earning their Rifle Shooting Merit Badge while attending this NRA approved course by completing the additionally designated requirements in the merit badge pamphlet (supplied by the Scout) with one of the instructors. This class covers about 90% of the merit badge requirements.

As there will be range firing exercises on Saturday, parental consent forms for minors must be signed by Saturday morning prior to the start of class...

STUDENTS ARE NOT TO BRING AMMUNITION TO THE CLASSROOM OR RIFLE RANGE.

Course fees cover the following:

NRA Qualification Patch, Award Certificates, Award Brassards (patch rockers), NRA Shooting Fundamentals Student Text Manual, Targets, Ammunition, NRA Course Completion Certificate, NRA administrative paperwork and Rifle Shooting Merit Badge instruction (if so desired).

NRA Course Completion Certificates will be awarded to all students upon completion of the classroom and range requirements for the NRA Qualification award. Rifles, rifle cleaning supplies and ammunition will be made available by the instructors for use by the students. Students wishing to use their own .22 cal rifle may do so upon approval from one of the instructors.
